Why the IPI?

Seven Reasons Why You Should Become a Member

1.) Marketing, Reputation and Credibility Building

The IPI Website will feature on its membership directory page every member, their contact information and photo. The Website will also post members’ trial successes on the Member News section on the home page. Members will have the opportunity to write articles and IP trial specific alerts for publication on the IPI website.

IPI will promote its members to LCA leadership for opportunities to speak at LCA conference or events.

The website will periodically highlight and promote a member in a column entitled “Member Spotlight.”

2.) Internal (within IPI) Networking and Referral Development

IPI is committed to assisting its members with networking and referral development within the IPI membership. IPI members will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in IPI networking and referral development events including at the winter and spring conferences, during member phone exchanges, all designed to connect IPI members with other IPI members on a sufficient level where referrals and co counsel relationships are comfortable and commonplace.

3.) External Networking and Referral Development

IPI members will participate in the IPI Corporate Counsel Connect program that will reach out to and educate in house counsel on hot topics in the trial of IP cases. The IPI will also include corporate counsel in other events it hosts, thereby facilitating introductions of IPI members to corporate decision makers who hire trial counsel. IPI members will also have the exclusive opportunity to participate in IPI networking and referral development events designed to connect IPI members with other LCA members

4.) Top Level Professional Exchanges

IPI members will join in small round table events designed for the exchange of best trial practices and trial approaches and other trial experiences in IP cases. IPI has developed and will roll out in the fall of 2014 practice specific round tables in copyright, trademark and patent where members via conference calls may periodically share the latest case and industry developments. These events will further the networking and relationship development among members necessary for referrals.

A future iteration of the IPI website will have a members’ only forums that will allow IPI members the opportunity to communicate regularly and share legal developments, have discussion of legal developments and make inquiries of other IPI members.

5.) Opportunity to become IPI Leadership and Serve on IPI Committees

IPI members are eligible to serve on committees and elected/appointed leadership positions within the IPI group, thereby furthering relationships with other members.

6.) Winter and Spring Conferences

The IPI holds a winter and a spring conference with programming directed specifically to issues faced in the courtroom and in the changing area of intellectual property. The conferences are an excellent opportunity for members to increase their professional development and their referral networks.

7.) Annual Award – IPI Member of the Year

The member benefits committee, in consultation with the IPI Chair, will select the IPI Member of the Year based on that member’s significant contribution and service to the IPI. The award will be presented at the spring IPI conference. IPI will also issue a press release and feature the award recipient on its website.
